BioOne Announces New Collection [Press Release]
Washington, DC — BioOne®, a nonprofit web-based aggregator of scholarly publications, announces the launch of a second collection of online editions in the fields of organismal and integrative biology, including ecology and the environment. Content will include the full texts of peer-reviewed journals and supplemental research materials. Planned for online access starting in January 2007, the new collection will be available on subscription in combination with the existing collection or separately.
BioOne introduced its first service in 2001 with 43 titles from 35 scholarly societies and other nonprofit publishers. The existing set today includes 82 publications from 65 publishers. The new set will be launched in January with approximately 20 to 30 titles and will be expanded progressively, with further additions in both 2007 and in future years. An expert panel of scholars and librarians is advising BioOne on publications of high quality and impact, appropriate for inclusion in the aggregation. Details on publications in the new set’s charter year package and subscription prices will be announced in the fall.
"We are pleased to respond to the needs of BioOne’s community of research institutions and independent publishers by making fully-accessible online many more research publications than would be possible within our existing collection. While being produced as separate sets, the two collections will share the same web site, features and functionality, with full interoperability," said Susan Skomal, Executive Director of BioOne.
